Machine Quilting

I have been ringing around to find out how much it would cost to quilt my Japanese Kimono Fabric Quilt because I thought it might work better than the usual hand quilting I do. I've also been reading stacks of blogs and have found that lots of people just seem to manage doing the machine quilting with their ordinary home machines. I really can't decide what to do. I know $150 - $200 is reasonable because of the work involved but should I try to do it myself and risk the mess? I have a walking foot - I am just scared.

  1. Actually, I think hand quilting would work particularly well on this quilt.
But if you really want to machine quilt it, I would either:
    - have it professionally done because those kimono fabrics are slippery and tricky to work with and you really want it done beautifully OR
    - do it yourself AFTER lots of practicing on another quilt made with regular cottons!!
    Hope this helps.

  2. I have seen quite a bit of big stitch quilting, japanese style, lately. If you baste it real good, I think that could be a good match for these pretty fabrics. Good luck with your decisions and your quilting!
